For single parents, dating is often a sport… But what sport could the experience of online dating be compared to? Answers from these everyday athletes in search of the gold medal of love!
What sport could the experience of online dating be compared to? It is to try to answer this question that the dating application designed for single parents, Even, carried out a study with Ipsos. Analysis.
From swimming to BMX… dating is a sport!
For this study, the French polling company Ipsos surveyed nearly 1,000 single French parents with children under the age of 18.
It turns out that many parents compare “dating” to sports commonly practiced in France. In other words, swimming, golf, running or, more original, BMX.
“For single parents, dating is most often similar to swimming (27%) and golf (22%): it’s about jumping in and aiming right. Others, who are fans of thrills, don’t hesitate to rush headlong: this is the case for the 18% of respondents who compare their experience to BMX, and 9% to rugby,” reveals the study.
Before adding: “But don’t rush, in love there is no point in running, you have to start on time. Indeed, for 14% of singles, love is like running a marathon: a real long-distance race where endurance is essential.”
Indeed, dating requires time and patience to find the right person. You have to learn to deal with disappointments and missed dates, while continuing to persevere.
Feint, hand-to-hand combat, touch… Our shrink prefers fencing
For Amélie Boukhobza, clinical psychologist, every date, every online experience can be compared to… fencing.
“For my part, I would rather say that dating single parents is a bit like fencing…a foil in hand, touch by touch. And each meeting is a new pass of arms. It requires patience, self-control, because each interaction is unique, nothing is ever acquired, with no point in advance. Even if the meeting is obviously not a fight,” she confides.
Summer remains the season for meetings par excellence!
Moreover, Amélie Boukhobza reveals to us that summer is the ideal time to connect with others. This season offers a well-deserved break that offers special opportunities… and the development of new relationships.
“Summer is a vacation period when you get away from your professional rhythm and rigid structures. It is therefore a good time to meet new people. Leave room for spontaneity, accept invitations, even those that are out of the ordinary! We no longer calculate, we let ourselves go to improbable things. We plan a small relaxation budget so as not to hold back, why not. An evening at the campsite nearby, a lively square in the village, a music or dance festival, everything is an opportunity. Photography in Arles, the theater in Avignon, Jazz everywhere… so many chances to meet people who share our tastes,” says the expert.
Meeting your soulmate (or a passing flirt) nevertheless involves “work on oneself“.
To do this, you need to:Cultivate self-confidence, open-mindedness, stay true to yourself, be authentic. Know how to listen and show a little empathy of course. Let yourself go, enjoy the moment, see where things lead, without pressure or specific expectations”, recommends, in conclusion, the specialist.
