The Swedish Medicines Agency is now issuing a warning after an unusually large number of confirmed cases of mushroom poisoning have been reported from different parts of the country.
– It is the questions from the healthcare system that are increasing and that we are concerned about, ie patients who have sought treatment for their symptoms, says Peter Hultén, pharmacist at the Poison Information Centre.
In several cases, it is the white fly agaric that is the culprit in the drama – a mushroom that does not have to be dangerous – but if a large amount is eaten, it can be life-threatening.
The mushroom consultant: “Is very beautiful”
According to mushroom expert Annika Fritsch, it is not the very first mushroom you come across – but it is found in Sörmland and in large parts of Sweden. Thanks to the color, it stands out in the greenery.
– It is completely white and very beautiful, says Annika Fritsch.
