Bank cards blocked by a major bank several thousand customers

Many French people have found themselves unable to pay in recent days.

The surprise is total. At the supermarket checkout, at the restaurant or in any store, thousands of customers had the unpleasant surprise of seeing that their bank card was unusable. Impossible to pay as usual. Affected for a few days, all these French people all belong to the same bank. Which confirms having “deactivated” one of the most popular payment methods at the moment.

Today, to pay for a purchase, one in five French people have the same reflex: take out their smartphone, do two manipulations on it and place it on the payment terminal, waiting for the little “beep” validating the transaction. In recent years, paying using your mobile phone has become fashionable. To do this, it is mandatory to enter your bank card number in a special application, as well as the pictogram and the expiration date.

Often, it is thanks to the “Apple Pay” service that the payment can be made. This is only available on the iPhones of the brand with the apple. However, since the end of July, many users of this device can no longer use it. This concerns all Crédit Agricole customers who use this service. Recently, the bank sent an e-mail to all its customers, entitled “Apple Pay: update necessary for your cards.”

In its writings, the entity explains that “following a technical development on the Apple Pay service, your cards will soon be deactivated.” And this, automatically. Many have therefore found themselves at the checkout unable to pay, being used to paying with the phone and not having the physical bank card with them, or even cash.

All Crédit Agricole customers can rest assured: if the bank cards entered into Apple Pay are deactivated, the same physical cards remain fully functional. This has no impact on the small rectangle neatly stored in your wallet. Contacted, Crédit Agricole did not respond on their number of Apple Pay users.

To overcome the Apple Pay problem, a simple manipulation is enough. To do this, you must delete your bank card from the “Cards” application on your iPhone and re-register it. Although, on the surface, no change will be obvious, this allows you to apply an update to your bank card in order to make it more secure during transactions.
