One of the many reasons people jump on a motorcycle is for convenience: You can easily avoid queues, they’re easy to park, and they’re relatively affordably priced.
Being able to avoid queues is a big reason why people in big cities buy a motorcycle. But what does the law say about the matter?

Are motorcycles allowed to drive between cars?
The short answer is yes, but of course it depends on the situation.
As long as it is carried out within the framework of traffic regulations, it is legal.
The important thing is that you as a motorcyclist respect the law.

Are motorcycles allowed to overtake in queues?
When it comes to queuing and traffic jams, a motorcycle is free to whiz between cars.
In the Traffic Act it is stated that it does not count as overtaking if there is “dense queuing in all lanes”.
There is also nothing in the law about how many times you can change lanes, which means that a motorcyclist can zigzag forward, as long as they do so without danger to others.
You may also not cross a solid line, drive over restricted areas, or drive in the opposite lane if situations do not allow it.

Are motorcycles allowed to overtake on the right?
When there is no queuing, the rules look different. Just like cars, motorcycles may only overtake on the right side, i.e. the inside, if there are at least two marked lanes in the direction of travel and the speed limit is no more than 70 km/h.
The important thing, however, is to keep a reasonable distance laterally. You are therefore not allowed to overtake on the inside on, for example, the motorway just because you are driving a motorcycle.

The legislation we have in Sweden regarding whether motorcyclists are allowed to drive between cars is similar to that in the rest of Europe. There is nothing that explicitly states that motorcyclists are not allowed to drive between cars, but it is important that it is done in an appropriate way and that you adhere to other traffic rules.
Of course, it applies that you keep a reasonable speed, otherwise you can go there for carelessness in traffic, something a potential police officer will assess himself.
