“It is better if they remain silent”

So far, there is little information about the hotly anticipated GTA 6. A former Rockstar developer believes he knows why the studio is so secretive about the development.

What is the status of GTA 6? It will be a while before we can enter the presumably huge world of GTA 6. As things stand, the game will not be released until fall 2025.

The first trailer caused a great stir and really boosted the hype. It already showed the game world and the two protagonists, a gangster couple who will make the fictional state of Leonida unsafe.

Apart from that, there have been repeated leaks that have brought parts of the game to the public. Rockstar itself, however, remains silent and hardly reveals anything about its upcoming blockbuster. A former employee understands why the studio behaves this way.

“It is better if they remain silent”

Which employee is involved? Obbe Vermeij is a former employee of Rockstar Games. According to the GTA fandom, he worked as technical director for the studio between 1995 and 2009 and worked on GTA Vice City, San Andreas and also part 4.

He knows what is going on within the company and explains why he can understand Rockstar’s silence:

I can fully understand why they do this because every time a big company says something, whether it’s Rockstar, EA, Ubisoft or whatever, it gets analyzed and often negatively received, so from their point of view the best thing to do is keep quiet

The public and their hasty reaction to news are partly to blame for Rockstar revealing so little. “It’s better if they keep quiet,” says Vermeij.

What about the leaks? The leaks that brought material to the public in 2022 and recently again are “usually not such a big deal,” says the developer. But he can understand the public’s excitement about it.

Given the little information that Rockstar gives players, the immense interest is understandable. Every new tidbit of information is therefore gratefully received, even in the form of leaks. Obbe Vermeji also has some bad news for you: He thinks GTA 6 could disappoint players on the first day.
