The shocking violence in Bangladesh must stop, says the UN Human Rights Commissioner Volker Türk.

Türk demands that the Bangladeshi government end its repression of peaceful protesters and comply with its obligations to protect freedom of assembly and expression.

The student protests that started last month were initially against the quota system for public sector jobs, but since then Bangladeshis have also demanded, among other things, that the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina break up.
