A ten kilometer high fountain of lava and ash has erupted from Etna. Black smoke now billows out of the mouth.
The international airport in Catania is at the foot of the volcano and now Sky News writes that several departures are cancelled. Incoming flights have also been forced to land at other airports.
La Repubblica writes that several nearby towns have received a blanket of black ash over them.
