In order to have a successful date, the majority, more precisely 69 percent, of Swedes who are actively dating choose to deliberately avoid certain specific topics of conversation on the first date – this is shown by a new survey conducted by Veria on behalf of Match.

News24 has listed the most turn-on, and sometimes forbidden, things you can do on a date according to participants.

The season of love – what is it?

If you are single and looking, it may be worth being extra active in your search during certain seasons.

The dating barometer, as the study is called, shows that Swedes prefer to date in the summer (43 percent), while one in five (21 percent) prefers to date in the spring and one in ten (11 percent) in the fall. Only 1 percent think that the most romantic season is winter – a number that for most people may not be very shocking.

Prohibited substances avoided

Ideally, you avoid talking about ex-partners, politics or personal finances. Other topics of conversation Swedes avoid on a first date are religion and football – but also sports in general.

When it comes to sex and intimacy, it is more women (31 percent) who avoid talking about the subject, compared to men (24 percent).

  • Talking only about oneself (43 percent)
  • Talking too much about exes/past relationships (37 percent)
  • Using the mobile phone during the date (32 percent)

    Verian has collected 1,108 online responses from singles, including 630 responses from active singles (who are dating or open to dating), via the randomly recruited Sifo panel during the period 20-27 May 2024.
