One last job. These are the famous last words that have already proved fatal to several people who have become gangsters against their will. Unfortunately, the same applies to Ivan (James), who steals art objects for “the Greek” Dimitri (Fred Melamed) because of an outstanding bill from his father.

It’s supposed to be very simple. One last job, one last work of art, then his debts are forgiven and he can start a normal life. But of course it’s anything but easy. Not least because Ivan has since the attention of the FBI and at the same time has to look after his socially maladjusted brother Ray (Ebon Moss-Bachrach).

On Amazon Prime Lying and Stealing is a thrilling thriller for heist fans that builds to a climax

Lying and Stealing takes us as silent, keen observers into the world of the rich, the beautiful and the very easily robbed. It all looks incredibly good and is reflected in all the theft scenes so tough and cool therefore, one is immediately drawn in and fascinated.

Theo James in particular does a masterful job as a sympathetic, approachable but driven protagonist. Lying and Stealing almost seems like his warm-up exercise for his role in Guy Ritchie’s brilliant gangster series The Gentlemen.

A Supporting Actor Highlight is Ebon Moss-Bachrach, who is currently thrilling as Richie in The Bear: King of the Kitchen and regularly steals the show from his co-stars with his nonconformist but lovable manner.

Much of it is reminiscent of the easy-going light-heartedness of a Guy Ritchie or Steven Soderbergh (Ocean’s Eleven) and will captivate fans of both. But beneath the chic facade lies a thriller drama that, in its finale, deadly serious and gets our pulse racing in the best possible way. Including an absolutely hateable antagonist.

If you want to go on a hunt with Theo James and Emily Ratajkowski, you can currently do so with a streaming subscription to Amazon Prime.
