By season 2 at the latest, Euphoria became one of the most successful series of our time. For the broadcaster HBO, the controversial teen drama was the most watched series after Game of Thrones. But the season finale of the last Euphoria season was more than two years ago and season 3 seems to be taking forever to arrive.

Sam Levinson is said to have drifted too far away from Euphoria
The Hollywood Reporter has published a comprehensive article on the Euphoria situation, in which various voices from the series’ immediate environment have their say. A major point of conflict behind the scenes is said to have been Levinson’s involvement in the HBO series The Idol with Abel Tesfaye aka The Weeknd.
While Levinson was initially only supposed to write a script for the pilot episode, he ultimately came on board to direct all episodes. Zendaya is said to have been anything but happy that the showrunner devoted significantly less time to Euphoria.
The Idol evolved after a scandalous Rolling Stone report about profound statements and details about production last year was a complete failure for HBO. The reviews were devastating and the interest of the target audience was probably significantly lower than with Euphoria.

Euphoria Season 3 filming is set to start
Now, however, all of the series’ major stars are said to have signed on for production of the third season to begin in January 2025. What the story of the new episodes will be is not yet clear. The scripts are said to still be being worked on.
Levinson has already pitched an idea that Making Zendaya’s Rue a kind of private detective However, both HBO and the actress rejected this suggestion. Zendaya brought up the idea of Rue becoming a surrogate mother in season 3, but this was also rejected. Currently, however, there is supposed to be a creative rapprochement between the leading actress and the showrunner.
Even if filming for the third season of Euphoria can begin in January 2025 as planned, it could still take until 2026 for new episodes of the series to begin airing.
