Brant has joined a group of municipalities committed to inclusivity.

The county has become a member of the Coalition of Inclusive Municipalities, a network that brings together Canadian cities towns that want to improve their policies against racism, discrimination, exclusion and intolerance.
The coalition’s website says there are more than 120 member municipalities.
The initiative is supported by the Canadian Commission for UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.
“Joining the Coalition of Inclusive Municipalities reflects our commitment to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all residents,” said Mayor David Bailey. “We look forward to working together with our partners to build a community that values and respects diversity.”

The coalition allows Brant to share ideas, resources, and best practices on how to promote human rights and inclusivity. By becoming a part of the organization, the county will develop a Plan of Action that aligns with the coalition’s goals.
“This plan will be integrated into local strategies and policies, reinforcing Brant’s commitment to making the community an inclusive place for all,” said a news release issued by the county. “The County of Brant will work closely with other municipalities, government bodies, Indigenous peoples, and various organizations to advance these important goals. This commitment is part of Brant’s ongoing efforts to uphold the principles of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and various human rights codes.”
