This budget boost will come right in time for the holidays.

This is the good news that will do the budget some good. While summer vacations are often synonymous with additional expenses compared to the rest of the year, the finances of three million French people will very soon be a little more replenished thanks to an upcoming transfer. This will automatically arrive in the bank account: (almost) no steps will be required to see the sum credited.

In a few days, many families will indeed receive at least 416.40 euros, which they can spend freely in the stores of their choice. The amount could even be doubled or even tripled, depending on the composition of the household. And no deadline has been set for using this bonus.

This transfer, made by the Family Allowance Fund, comes as part of the traditional Back-to-School Allowance. Each year, the State pays money to households in the greatest difficulty in order to help them pay for supplies and various equipment needed for the coming year (clothes, sneakers, bags, etc.). The amount granted varies according to the age of the children and their number in the household.

For each child in primary school (6 to 10 years old), 416.40 euros will be paid. This will be 439.38 euros for each child in middle school (11 to 14 years old), then 454.60 euros for each child in high school (15 to 18 years old). These amounts have benefited from a revaluation of 4.6%, compared to 2023, or almost 20 euros per level.

The Back-to-School Allowance is paid automatically to all (eligible) parents of children aged 6 to 15. For those whose children are between 16 and 18, their schooling must be confirmed with the CAF. In addition, if the child enters CP before the age of 6, a school certificate must be sent to the CAF to receive the money.

It is important to note that the ARS is not received by everyone. It depends on the income received two years previously. To obtain aid in 2024, the reference tax income (RFR) of 2022 must not exceed 25,775 euros for one dependent child, 31,723 euros for two children or 37,671 euros for three children.

To find out if you are eligible, simply consult your 2022 tax notice and check the “Reference tax income” line. If this income is below the ceiling, you will receive the Back-to-School Allowance. In addition, if you are already a CAF beneficiary, no additional steps are necessary for children aged 6 to 15, the allowance is paid automatically.

As planned in the calendar, the payment will arrive in the accounts on Tuesday, August 20 for the vast majority of eligible people. On the other hand, it will arrive earlier, at the beginning of August, for beneficiaries living in Reunion and Mayotte.
