There will be a new raid event with Mega Rayquaza in Pokémon GO on August 3, 2024. Here you can find tips for the event.
What kind of event is this? There was a top raid event featuring Mega Rayquaza in June 2024, but due to issues, there were not enough copies available for many trainers.
That’s why there will be a replacement event on August 3, 2024 that is basically better than the original. Because: The powerful Mega Rayquaza appears in normal raids, not in top raids.
This means you can challenge the Pokémon via remote raids if you don’t have one nearby. Alternatively, you can invite friends to help you if you don’t have any other players.
In this article we will show you some tips for raid day with Mega Rayquaza.
Note three times on Saturday
These are the raid times: Mega Rayquaza is set to appear at three specific times on Saturday – in all arenas. Niantic Support confirmed this via X.com.
The raid will then be available for 25 minutes, allowing up to two raids per arena per hour.
Get the meteorite in research
What is the meteorite for? When you defeat Mega Rayquaza, you only get an encounter with regular Rayquaza plus Mega Energy. But you need something else to Mega Evolve: the Meteorite.
With this item, Rayquaza learns the attack “Zenith Striker”, which in combination with Mega Energy triggers Mega Evolution.
The meteorite is available in a free, limited-time research on Saturday, so you should definitely complete it to get the meteorite.
There is also a small chance that captured Rayquaza from the Mega Raid will give you a meteorite. But research is the guaranteed way to get the item.
Use the right counters against Mega Rayquaza
Which type is strong against Mega Rayquaza? Mega Rayquaza is weak against Ice, Rock, Dragon and Fairy type attacks, with Ice being particularly effective.
That’s why you should use monsters of this type, such as:
And similar monsters. Even a Mewtwo with Ice Beam can do a lot of damage.

Which WP has a perfect Rayquaza?
Pay attention to this WP: Many trainers are looking for a four-star Rayquaza, i.e. one with perfect stats. If you want to know whether your Rayquaza is a so-called “Hundo” after the raid, look at these CP values:
Otherwise, there are other interesting dates this month. For example, there is a community day, various raid hours, spotlight hours and more.
