One month before the start of season 2, Amazon is treating fans of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power almost daily with new insights into the upcoming eight episodes of the fantasy series. While we are still waiting for confirmation after season 1 as to whether the stranger is really Gandalf, Amazon seems to be already getting the next wizard in place. Tolkien had five Istari. Saruman the White led the Order of Wizards which also includes the Grey (Gandalf), the two Blues (Nameless Ones) and the Brown (Radagast).
In Tolkien’s work, the five Istari only appear in the Third Age. The Amazon series, however, seems to introduce the wizards into the series’ plot in the Second Age. It was only late, during Frodo’s time, that Saruman turned to evil and became Rohan’s great opponent with his orcs and Uruk-hai in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. This means that if Ciarán Hinds really plays Saruman, he should still be in season 2 of The Rings of Power. with the Elves against Sauron battle.

Amazon’s Lord of the Rings series returns on Thursday, 29 August 2024returns to Prime and will then show its remaining episodes weekly. Like season 1, the second season also includes eight episodes.
