Popular live streaming platform owned by Amazon Twitchis opening its previously announced new DJ category on August 8th.
The company’s official website explains this: It happened: “Calling all DJs and music lovers! We have great news! Earlier this year, we announced the Twitch DJ Program. This program is a huge development for the DJ community, the music industry, and the millions of music lovers on Twitch. DJs have historically faced significant challenges online because the content they produce is complex and doesn’t fit into traditional music formats. Thanks to our partnerships with major music labels such as Universal, Warner, Sony, as well as hundreds of independent music labels, DJs can now legally stream the vast majority of popular music on Twitch. We are proud to be the first major online service to provide this opportunity to DJs and music lovers. The program provides DJs with the opportunity to engage and grow with their communities, while also providing a framework where musicians’ rights are respected and their royalties are paid fairly. Joining the program also provides DJs with new promotional opportunities on the air, with the right to legally stream tens of millions of tracks in our catalog, covering the vast majority of popular music. First-year participants in the program are also eligible to receive a Twitch subsidy to help cover the cost of new music for partners and affiliates. This subsidy kicks off in August at 100%. There are also opportunities for viewers in the party. The first unlockable animated emote is coming on August 8th. From August 8th to 14th, anyone who watches at least 15 minutes of streams in the DJ category will earn a new DJ emote.
