As delicious as it is, avocado is a difficult fruit to preserve, because it tends to spoil very quickly. However, there is a simple and quick preservation method that allows you to keep it ripe for a month!

Rich in vitamins, fiber and mineral salts, the avocado is a creamy and tasty fruit that we never tire of, whatever the season! But even if it lends itself easily to various recipes, its ripening often poses a problem. Fans know how frustrating it is to see it spoil quickly. Because, once ripe, this fruit tends to deteriorate in a few days and turn black, even when it is carefully stored in the refrigerator.

However, there is a very simple and economical trick to keep them for a long time. In truth, you just need to wash the avocado properly, dry it, and then place it in an airtight container. To do this, you only need two very ordinary ingredients: water and white vinegar! Although it may seem strange, washing avocados, as well as other fruits, in an acidic solution kills any bacteria or contamination on the skin, and thus helps extend their shelf life.

To determine if an avocado is ripe or not, simply look at it and touch it. A ripe avocado has a dark green skin with a bumpy surface. When it is not ripe, its skin is lighter and smoother. Look at and gently feel the fruit. If it is slightly soft and not completely hard, it is ripe. If it is hard and difficult to squeeze, it is not ready: you must wait.

When the avocado is ripe, the procedure for preserving it for a long time is simple: just prepare a solution composed of three parts cold water to one part white cooking vinegar, distilled at 5%. Wait two minutes for the products to be well mixed. Then, gently immerse the avocado in it for about a minute. This step eliminates bacteria and mold present on the surface of the fruit, which are responsible for its rapid deterioration. After the vinegar bath, rinse it with clean water and let it sit and air dry.

This technique offers several significant advantages. In addition to extending the freshness of avocados by about a month, it does not change their taste or texture in any way. In addition, white vinegar, known for its natural disinfectant properties, is an inexpensive and easily accessible product. You will therefore be able to enjoy fresh avocados for an extended period of time, while avoiding throwing them away prematurely. Enough to limit food waste!

Be careful, many people on social media recommend storing avocados in water. Do not do this! This technique could make you sick, since it only encourages the growth of bacteria, which will then contaminate the fruit. In short, the opposite of the desired effect!
