A man in his 60s in Gävle has been convicted of attempted murder after stabbing his wife with a kitchen knife in bed.
The incident happened in the middle of the night in April, when the man suddenly started stabbing the woman in the chest and back and strangled her.
The stabbing caused the lungs to collapse, writes Gefle Dagblad. According to police interrogations, the man wanted to kill the woman and then himself, but the woman survived the injuries.
The man was sentenced on Thursday for attempted murder to forensic psychiatric care with a special discharge examination, as he is deemed to have committed the act under the influence of a serious mental disorder.
