He had to lose his muscles for the action film

Exactly one year before Henry Cavill donned the iconic blue and red cape of the Man of Steel for the first time, the actor celebrated the probably the biggest flop of his career ‒ at least if we look at the Moviepilot community’s rating and other reviews. However, this film is currently storming the Netflix charts. We are talking about The Cold Light of Day. It is currently ranked second in the top 10 films.

Action flop The Cold Light of Day with Henry Cavill storms the Netflix charts: That’s what it’s about

In The Cold Light of Day, Cavill takes on the role of young Will, who is surprised by an attack on his sailing holiday, in which his family disappears without a trace. At the last second, he is saved by his father Martin (Bruce Willis), who reveals to him that he has a second identity as a secret agent.

Suddenly Will has to gather all his courage and embark on a dangerous mission that involves a Conspiracy of unknown proportions related.

The action film only received a rating of 4.9 out of 10 from the Moviepilot community. The only film that fared worse was Hellraiser: Hellworld from 2005, which received a rating of 4.2 out of 10. However, since Cavill did not play a leading role in it, we can probably ignore the film.

At Rotten Tomatoes, things are looking no less rosy for the action thriller: Here, The Cold Light of Day comes in at a devastating press score of 4 percent! The public is only slightly more forgiving, at 29 percent.

Henry Cavill had to forget his action talents for The Cold Light of Day

As Henry Cavill explained in the film’s behind-the-scenes footage, playing the role of the clumsy Will was not an easy task for him. While he was often asked to stay fit for previous roles, such as his previous film War of the Gods, his requirements for The Cold Light of Day were the exact opposite:

I should drink as much as possible, eat as much as possible, in order to to become as average and normal as possiblebecause I had just come from this other job. The instruction was: Be less competent, walk with less balance. In a stressful situation, my last role was someone who reacts perfectly to it. But Will does not react in that way at all. He tries to survive and survives only by sheer luck out of here.

You can currently watch the bumbling Henry Cavill in The Cold Light of Day on Netflix and judge for yourself whether this is his worst leading role.
