Critical of the verdict – after the murder of a 17-year-old boy in Norrköping • 20-year-old woman acquitted of the murder
The 20-year-old woman who was charged with the murder of a 17-year-old boy in Norrköping is convicted of attempted murder and weapons offenses – but acquitted of murder.
The head of the investigation is critical of the district court verdict, and believes that everything points to the fact that it was the woman who shot the boy.
– Both police and prosecutors were of the opinion that this was the perpetrator, and that the woman shot the young boy, says investigation leader Jan Staaf to TV4 Nyheterna.
On December 20 last year, a 17-year-old boy was murdered at a bus stop in Marielund in Norrköping with several shots.
In June, the woman was indicted on suspicion of murder. On Thursday, the Norrköping district court announced that the woman was sentenced to 12 years in prison for attempted murder and serious weapons offences. But she was acquitted of murder.
Investigation leader Jan Staaf is critical of the woman being acquitted of murder. He believes that everything points to the woman who shot the boy.
– Both police and prosecutors were of the opinion that this was the perpetrator, says investigation leader Jan Staaf to TV4 Nyheterna.
“Not beyond a reasonable doubt”
According to the district court’s assessment, it is not beyond reasonable doubt that she must have been the one who shot. The woman herself claims that she was pushed aside by another person who allegedly shot the boy.
The district court finds, however, that the woman tricked the murdered 17-year-old.
– We have investigated alternative perpetrators and everything points to it being this woman who shot, says Jan Staaf.
– Then it is a weakness of course that no one has seen the woman execute this boy, he continues.
He now hopes that the prosecutor will appeal the verdict to the Court of Appeal, which will make a different assessment.
The murder weapon was used earlier
A little over a month before the murder of the 17-year-old, several shots were fired through a door to an apartment where eight people were. Police and prosecutors suspect that the murder weapon was used in the crime, and that it was the 20-year-old who shot at the apartment.
– During the course of the investigation, we were able to link this woman to the crime. Partly through technical evidence and camera footage. Then, during the course of the investigation, the woman admitted to this act, says Jan Staaf.
Women more prominent
Staaf adds that the case is unique, and shows the changing role of women within the criminal networks.
– We have previously seen how women participated in crimes as drivers, and transported drugs, but having a central role in the form of perpetrator and shooter is very unusual, as we see in these cases.
– It seems that women are given more prominent roles in all cases in Sweden.
