Fire damage to a building behind a Wilsonville home was minimized because of a homeowner’s quick action, says Norfolk County Fire Department’s fire prevention officer.

Firefighters were dispatched just after 7 am on Wednesday when the homeowner noticed smoke coming from an outbuilding.

Crews from Waterford, Simcoe, Teeterville and Delhi responded and extinguished the fire in a corner of a workshop/storage building. There were no injuries reported.

Damage is estimated at $30,000. The property owners are insured. The cause of the fire is being investigated but isn’t considered suspicious.

“Damage was minimalized because the homeowner made a quick 911 call and knew what to say to dispatchers,” said fire prevention officer Cory Armstrong-Smith. “When reporting an emergency to 911 remember that you live in Norfolk County to avoid confusion and be ready with your 911 address when prompted.”
