Unsubstantiated statements made by former US President Donald Trump about his political opponent Kamala Harris have received a lot of attention.
Trump lashed out at Harris during a visit to the Organization of Black Journalists of America. He questioned the ethnicity of Harris – who has a mother from India and a father from Jamaica – and accused her of posing as black to score political points.
– She has always promoted her Indian heritage. I didn’t even know she was black until a couple of years ago when all of a sudden she happened to be black, and now she wants to make herself known as black, Trump said.
Kamala Harris is the first black woman and the first person of South Asian descent to be vice president of the United States. Later in the evening, Kamala Harris gave a brief response to speeches during an appearance in Houston.
– It was the same old way, the same division and disrespect. “Let me just say: The American people deserve better,” Harris said.
