Something that stands out in this summer’s Olympics is that the International Olympic Committee, IOC, will not award any prize money. What matters is that the nations’ own Olympic committees are allowed to choose whether prize money should be awarded or not. However, there is an exceptional case where the IOC will award prize money, and that is for athletics. Our Swedish track and field athletes, among them Armand Duplantis, Daniel Ståhl and Perseus Karlstrom can count themselves happy.

As a winner of an Olympic gold as a track and field athlete, you win approx. 550,000 Swedish kronor.

To summarize, only the Swedish track and field athletes have a chance at prize money, and that from the IOC and not the SOC.

Other Swedish medal hopes, such as Sarah Sjostrom and Truls Möregårdhwill not receive prize money.
