Merseyside Police signs its website that a large group of people gathered outside a local mosque on Tuesday evening.
There they allegedly started throwing objects at the building.
“The police officers on duty are currently dealing with criminal behavior and violence where bottles and garbage cans are thrown at them,” the police write.
BBC reports that a police bus has been set on fire.
The police suspect that the people behind the violence are connected to the far-right and Islamophobic English Defense League.
Three girls were killed
It was on Monday that a 17-year-old attacked a dance lesson for children. Three young girls were killed.
A further eight children are being treated in hospital, of which five are said to be seriously injured. Two adults are also treated with serious injuries. They are said to have tried to protect the children when the 17-year-old attacked.
The 17-year-old has been arrested for the crime and was interviewed by the police on Tuesday. Any motives are unknown.
Police: Stop speculating
The local police urge the population to stop speculating about the 17-year-old who was arrested after the knife attack on Monday.
On their website they write that “we have already said that the person arrested was born in Great Britain and speculation is not helping anyone right now”.
