New Rings of Power trailer shows creatures that were searched for for centuries in Lord of the Rings films

Amazon’s fantasy series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power premiered at the San Diego Comic-Con, a month before the start of Season 2 on 29 August 2024released a new long trailer. What makes the female Ents so special in the Lord of the Rings universe

Season 1 already showed Ents in the first teaser, but they never made it beyond their brief appearance when the alien hit the comet in the first eight episodes. Season 2 has significantly more Ent appearances, as the trailer for season 2 (with speaking roles and fights) already reveals. A new making-of video (see below) already shows that elf Arondir (Ismael Cruz Córdova) and human boy Theo (Tyroe Muhafidin) are getting to know each other.

Here, the Amazon series ventures into a narrative territory that is shrouded in mystery in Tolkien’s mythology of Frodo’s time. Because while we get a pretty good picture of the Ents in the course of the trilogy, in the novels we only learn about the Entwives from legend: While the Entmen tended to look after the large, wild trees, Entwives loved the cultivation of nature with gardens and devoted themselves to smaller plants and meadows. They moved across the Anduin River to the east of Middle Earth and settled south of Mirkwood.

However, this area was later described as a desolate wasteland of Brown Lands known: The Battle of the Last Alliance (the final battle against Sauron, probably in season 5) devastated the home of the Entwives and the creatures disappearedIf Season 2 of The Rings of Power introduces the female Ents in the Second Age, the series could later explain where they disappeared to in the Third Age (from Frodo and Co.) – and thus solve a millennia-old mystery.
