Ukrainian military intelligence claims to have been involved in an ambush that killed dozens of soldiers from the Malian army and the Russian Wagner mercenary army, reports The Guardian.

In West Africa’s Mali, Tuareg rebels said Malian and Wagner soldiers had died in their ambush.

Intense fighting lasted for many days.

– The rebels received the necessary information. And not just information, which enabled successful military operations against Russian war crimes, said the spokesperson of the Ukrainian military intelligence service GUR Andrii Yusov televised on Monday.

Yusov did not say whether Ukrainian soldiers were involved in the fighting or on the ground in Mali. He said that more information is still awaited.

The Kyiv Post published a photo on Monday of Malian rebels holding a Ukrainian flag shortly after the ambush. The image could not be independently verified.

There is a civil war going on in Mali, where rebel groups in the north of the country are fighting against the military junta ruling the south of the country.
