Victor Lindgren took a vacation from his job – and won Olympic silver.
Now his boss makes a well-deserved promise, to say the least.
– That was almost included in the calculation, he says to Aftonbladet.
Victor Lindgren is only 21 years old and was clear ahead of this year’s Olympics in Paris. It was during the Los Angeles Olympics in four years that he will be at his best and fight for medals, and everything that happens this summer is just a bonus. It was enough all the way to silver anyway.
The manager’s words after the success
Everyone knew that Lindgren could threaten the very best in 10 meter air rifle shooting, but an Olympic debut is something completely different, and it is not easy to keep the nerves in check. But the Swede excelled from start to finish, and in the end won a slightly sensational silver. Afterwards he was in tears, and his journey is unlike that of many other Swedes during this Olympics.
Thanks to a special support from SOK, Lindgren has been able to reduce time from his work as a welder. Instead of one hundred percent, he now works 80 percent, which gives more time for training, and it has undeniably paid off. Many of Lindgren’s competitors have shot as a full-time job, but Lindgren works shifts at a company called Orwak, where Thomas Karlsson is the manager.
– He works shifts. One week he trains in the morning, the other week he works during the day and trains in the afternoon. That is impressive. There will be different routines from week to week, but he seems to handle it in a perfect way, says Karlsson to Aftonbladet.
Wonderful promise
Lindgren himself has thus taken leave from his job to be able to compete in the Olympics. On August 4, he is supposed to fly home from Paris, and the next day he starts work again. But now his boss makes a wonderful promise of an extended holiday for Sweden’s new Olympic hero.
– Yes… they almost took that into account, that we’ll get by anyway. So it must absolutely be possible to solve it, we will solve it, he says.
Victor Lindgren was in tears when he did his first television interview with Max after the silver, and during the ceremony with loved ones and the media in the afternoon on Monday, he again had a hard time keeping the tears away.
– I said it out loud to myself too. “What the hell have I done?”. It felt so, unreal. But it has started to sink in a little more now, he says.
