LIVE. JO 2024: triathlon postponed, Agbegnenou returns to the fight

LIVE JO 2024 triathlon postponed Agbegnenou returns to the fight

After a prolific day with 8 new medals, the French team will have new chances this Tuesday, notably in team fencing and judo with Clarisse Agbegnenou. The men’s triathlon was postponed to Wednesday due to the insufficient quality of the waters of the Seine.

06:55 – Agbegnenou’s big day?

Three years after her demonstration in Tokyo, the queen of judo Clarisse Agbegnenou has a date with history to win a third Olympic title, the second in individual. The Frenchwoman, who returned from maternity in 2023, had again won the world title a few months after her return but has suffered more in recent months with a 7th place in the European Championship then a bronze medal at the last World Championships, far from her total superiority of yesteryear. Unseeded, she inherited a difficult draw, illustrated by an entry into the competition against the Israeli Gili Sharir, the reigning vice-champion of Europe.

06:37 – A new surprise in judo? Alpha Oumar Djalo will open the day

The day after the sensation Joan-Benjamin Gaba, 35th in the world and silver medalist in -73kg, another French outsider is entered in the category above, the -81kg: Alpha Oumar Djalo. He also has as his only international individual medal the bronze gleaned at the 2023 European Championships. He will not have time to think since the Paris native, already bronze in the capital at the 2023 Paris Grand Slam, is scheduled for the first fight of the day at 10am. He faces the Egyptian Abdelrahman Abdelghani in the first round.

06:26 – The competitions will start at 8:30

Badminton will open the day at Porte de la Chapelle at 8:30 a.m. followed by the Olympic trap shooting qualifications and the first handball, volleyball and beach volleyball matches. Judo begins at 10 a.m. followed by the first swimming series at 11 a.m. Note this Tuesday the start of the tournament of a particularly spectacular sport, 3×3 basketball with the two French men’s and women’s teams qualified for these Olympic Games and engaged in the group stage.

06:17 – French triathletes forced to wait

The postponement of the triathlon scheduled for this Tuesday will be closely followed by the blue side. Pierre Le Corre, Léo Bergère and Dorian Coninx are three good medal chances for the French clan. Léo Bergère was crowned world champion in 2022, followed a year later by Dorian Coninx while Pierre Le Corre is also among the best in the world. The French triathlon has never won an individual medal at the Olympic Games but opened its counter in Tokyo in 2021 thanks to the mixed relay.

06:10 – No triathlon this Tuesday, the men’s event postponed to Wednesday

The male triathletes competing in the Olympic Games will have to wait. The organizers announced on Tuesday morning the postponement of the Olympic individual triathlon event after analyses showed insufficient water quality in the Seine. The competition was scheduled for Tuesday morning starting at 8am. The decision was made following a meeting held last night between the Olympic organization, the International Triathlon Federation, the IOC and local authorities. “The analyses carried out in the Seine today revealed water quality levels that did not offer sufficient guarantees to allow the event to take place.” A postponement date has already been announced: Wednesday in the wake of the women’s event scheduled for 8am. The start of the men’s event is now scheduled for 10:45am on Wednesday. A postponement is still possible until Friday, a date listed as the last resort.
