After the accident, the authorities instructed the residents of the area to keep their windows and doors closed. The area has since been declared safe.

According to BASF, slightly higher than usual hydrocarbon readings have been detected in the immediate vicinity of the factory.

– There has been no danger to people at any point, BASF says in the release.

The cause of the explosion is being investigated.

In 2016, five people died in an explosion and fire at the factory.

About 39,000 people work at the factory.
