Elvis Amoroso, the President of the Venezuelan National Electoral Council (CNE), announced that incumbent President Nicolas Maduro won the presidential election.
Amoroso stated that 80 percent of the ballot boxes were opened and announced that the Grand Patriotic Pole (Gran Polo Patriotico) candidate Maduro won the presidential election in which 10 candidates competed.
ELECTED FOR THE 3RD TIME
According to preliminary results, Maduro secured his third term as president with 51.20 percent of the vote.
Edmundo Gonzalez, candidate of the opposition coalition United Democratic Platform (PUD), comes in second with 44.20 percent.
CNE President Amoroso announced that the results details for the candidates will be published in tabular form on the CNE website in the coming hours.
It was reported that the participation rate in the ballot box was 59 percent.
The candidate who emerges victorious from the election will be sworn in as the country’s new president on January 10, 2025.
FIRST STATEMENT FROM MADURO
Addressing thousands of supporters gathered in front of the Miraflores Presidential Palace, Maduro called on everyone to respect the July 28 election results announced by the National Electoral Council (CNE).
Maduro emphasized that they will continue to defend democracy and said, “You gave me the authority. There will always be peace in our country for our homeland, for our people. No one should attempt to resort to violence, should not try to create fascism. Separation and polarization harm Venezuela. Who benefits from violence in the streets?”
Saying that he is a man of peace, Maduro said, “I call on the political parties and representatives of all sectors in the country to engage in dialogue. Be respectful of the people and the constitution. I am ready to talk to everyone.”
Maduro noted that fascism had lost in Venezuela, saying, “They couldn’t do it with economic sanctions, we managed to eliminate their aggression and threats. Now they won’t be able to do it and they will never be able to. We will never allow them to play with the honor of the Venezuelan people.”
Maduro also said that the CNE website had been subject to a “major” cyberattack from abroad, and that the national prosecutor’s office would launch an investigation into the incident.
Maduro also thanked international observers who followed the elections.
