A large landslide after a rainstorm stops traffic on the E45 north of Lilla Edet, at the height of Tösslanda.
The rescue service describes it as an undermining of the ground. At the northern exit on the E45 at Lilla Edet, there have also been major floods.
– We have no personal injuries. But I can’t really answer what damage there has been on the road itself at the moment, says Niclas Fogelqvist, emergency and command officer at the rescue service.
According to a preliminary forecast from the Swedish Transport Administration, E45 can only open on Tuesday.
Also on the road in 2009 south of Sjuntorp, and on the road in 2014, a landslide has occurred and the roads are impassable and are expected to be until Wednesday.
In addition to the landslide on E45, road 2014 and road 2009, about 20 properties in the area have been affected.
20 to 30 vehicles were stuck
The road is closed and traffic is being diverted. The rescue service is on site with boats and drones.
The police were also called to the scene.
– We will stay all night and assist the Swedish Transport Administration, says Göran Carlbom, the police officer on duty in the West region.
Between 20 and 30 vehicles were stuck between the bodies of water. Karl-Anders Arvidsson was on his way home to Trollhättan when water suddenly started pouring into the car.
– It increased very quickly, in the end I sat in water and the engine stopped, says Arvidsson.
After getting out of the car, he was picked up and driven home by a relative.
– But the car is still standing. I don’t know how long it will last, but now it’s just a matter of calming down. It was very unpleasant, of course, he says.
A meeting was held about the incident
At 10:30 p.m., according to the emergency services, there were fewer cars left at the scene.
– The water is slowly receding, so some cars will be able to drive from there, says Johan Eklund, alarm and line operator.
On Monday evening, the County Administrative Board together with the Swedish Transport Administration, the municipality, the rescue service and the police had a meeting about the incident. Exactly what has happened is being investigated and what the consequences will be is still uncertain.
