Yellow warning for torrential downpours over Norrbotten and Västerbotten

SMHI has issued a yellow warning for heavy rain showers that can locally produce large amounts of rain in a short time, over the northern Norrland coast and inland. It can cause the risk of flooding and traffic problems.

The area affected is the eastern parts of Västerbotten and Norrbotten counties. It is during Sunday afternoon that showers form, which can locally produce large amounts of rain in a short time, up to 40-60 millimeters.

Already during Sunday morning, local strong showers were expected on the coast.

Not sure where it rains the most

However, it is difficult to assess where the largest amounts of rain fall, according to SMHI, which writes: “In the vast majority of places, large amounts will not occur”.

The showers are expected to subside on Sunday evening and night towards Monday.
