Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has its second season and with it a new playable villain: Mr. Freeze. Or more precisely, Mrs. Freeze, because the well-known supervillain appears in the game as a lesbian woman. Although her gameplay is supposed to be pretty good, the choice and appearance of the character are causing some head-shaking.

What’s new in Suicide Squad: On July 25th, Suicide Squad got its second season. The new hero and villain here is Mrs. Freeze, a gender bent version of Mr. Freeze, a villain with ice superpowers.
Mr. Freeze, real name: Doctor Victor Fries, is one of the most famous supervillains in the Batman universe and is played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the films. Schwarzenegger even played the role again at the Oscars in 2024, albeit only as a gag.
Mrs. Freeze is a copy of the villain in Suicide Squad, only in female form and gay. The whole idea of the character is roughly that he uses the ice powers to save his terminally ill wife Nora.
Along with Mrs. Freeze, a lot of other content is coming into the game, including new skins, fights and a battle pass. Mrs. Freeze in particular is receiving harsh criticism. You can find the official trailer on YouTube.

“I thought Suicide Squad was a tragedy – now I understand it’s a comedy”
On Reddit and in the comments under several YouTube videos, people are shaking their heads at the choice of Mrs. Freeze as the new villain. If they wanted a female villain with ice powers, they should have just chosen Killer Frost. At least she is canonically part of the Suicide Squad. Nora Fries is an alternative.
But changing an established character like Mr. Freeze feels like it was “intentional.” No one can seriously expect that this decision would be well received.
No effort was even made with Mrs. Freeze. She has a stereotypical look with short hair and masculine features, something that lesbian characters are almost always portrayed with in games.
Since the update, there have been significantly more negative reviews than positive ones on Steam. The number of players has increased from around 60 to around 600, but that is still far from a top position.
At least Mrs. Freeze’s gameplay is good in parts. She moves around by creating bridges out of ice for herself, which is much more fun than other characters. What doesn’t fit is that she has fire attacks for some reason. That’s questionable for a frost villain.
For many Batman fans, Mr. Freeze is closely associated with Arnold Schwarzenegger as an actor, who lent his voice and appearance to the villain. Fans are apparently not very happy to see the character changed so much.
