The French handball players, reigning Olympic champions, were soundly beaten in their first match of the Games by Denmark (37-29) on Saturday in Paris in the clash between the two big favourites for the gold medal. Already behind at half-time (18-17) after leading 9-4, Nikola Karabatic’s teammates conceded the first three goals of the second period and were never able to catch up with the world champions. This defeat does not jeopardise French ambitions in the tournament.
