Lady Gaga’s performance on her golden stairs on the banks of the Seine had been pre-recorded in the afternoon. At the opening ceremony, the audience present contemplated a completely different spectacle.
First scene of the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic GamesLady Gaga’s performance was widely praised by viewers. The international artist appeared on screens among ten dancers and 17 musicians. Dressed in a pink feathered costume, she performed the famous song “Mon truc en plumes” by Zizi Jeanmaire, perched on a golden staircase in Square Barye, on the banks of the Seine. Except that the sequence was not filmed live.
“People didn’t believe it at first,” says a journalist from France 3 Paris Île-de-France. “We were in front of the set of Lady Gaga. And by the time the music starts, the staircase is empty.” The performance had actually been filmed a few hours earlier, on Friday afternoon, under milder skies.
“Some spectators booed”
When Lady Gaga appeared on the screens, the singer was no longer on her staircase. The audience on the banks of the Seine who had a view of the square only saw a handful of dancers waving pink flags bearing the image of the Olympic Games. “Some spectators booed and regretted having paid 180 euros to see nothing,” reports the France 3 journalist.
“I hope you enjoyed this performance as much as I did,” Lady Gaga said after the opening ceremony on X. The American star thanked the French for their welcome, without any mention of the fact that she had not performed live. The Olympic organizing committee also did not comment on this choice.
