A serious illness makes it difficult for Celine Dion who

Céline Dion returned to the Olympic stage in breathtaking fashion. The last time he performed at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games was 28 years ago.

French Canadian world star Celine Dion captured the hearts of the spectators at the opening of the Paris Olympics by performing at the end of the entire ceremony at the Eiffel Tower Edit Piaf of the song Hymn to love.

What made the moment particularly impressive was that the performance was the first for Dion, 56, since December 2022.

Dion then had to stop his world tour due to health problems. He suffers from stiff person syndrome, which causes, among other things, body stiffness and strong muscle spasms. The rare disease has also affected Dion’s singing ability.

– As if someone is strangling me when I try to sing. It feels as if someone is pressing the larynx and pharynx with two fingers, he said In an interview with NBC in June.

According to Dion, the disease remained undiagnosed for a long time. He started to feel changes in his voice, but didn’t know what it was until December 2022.

There is currently no known effective cure for stiffness syndrome. Dion says that she goes to physical and sound therapy several times a week.

– My goal is to raise awareness and to finance and look for a possible cure. It would be incredible, Dion told the BBC.

Dion described in the same interview that she is rebuilding her voice, as it were. The historic appearance in Paris proved that the building has been successful.

Perhaps what makes Dion’s expected appearance even more touching is that the occasion was actually not the first in Olympic history.

A similar Olympic circle was closed on a magical night in Paris, as Dion performed at the opening of the Summer Olympics in Atlanta in 1996. Dion sang the theme song of the Games, The Power of the Dream.

Just like in Paris, Dion quickly sang after the Olympic flame was lit. 28 years ago, the Olympic flame was lit by a boxer Muhammad Alinow sprints Marie José Perec and judoka Teddy Riner.

Dion herself commented on her performance in Paris on her X account.

– It was a great honor to perform at the opening. Most of all, I am happy to celebrate these incredible athletes and their stories of sacrifice, determination, pain and perseverance, Dion wrote.

All of this has also been the singer’s own journey back to the stage.
