The fire brigade and the police were called to the scene shortly before 4 am. The postman had noticed the fire.
Among the dead cows were at least 100 dairy cows and calves. Firefighting efforts continued long into Saturday morning, as the fire threatened to spread from the barn to other buildings on the farm.
