Elderly woman taken from library – stole over a thousand books

Elderly woman carried from library • Library director: “Extensive theft”

A woman in her 80s had borrowed two books from Vetlanda library.
At home, she had 1,200 that belonged to the library.
– It is a fairly extensive theft, says library manager Malin Nelson.

The woman has been ported from Vetlanda library after nearly 1,200 books were found at her home, reports P4 Jönköping. Only two of them were listed among her existing loans at the library.

According to the radio channel, the Eksjö district court has granted an access ban as the risk of the woman continuing to commit thefts in the library is high.

“Even if the woman is not convicted, it is clear that the books were not accessed legally,” writes the district court.

“Stand out”

Vetlanda library does not want to give any exact details about the case.

– But it stands out, it’s a fairly extensive theft, says Malin Nelson, library manager at Vetlanda library to TV4 Nyheterna.

The access ban does not only apply to the library. The woman will also not be welcome in the book bus or any branches, according to P4.
