Reporter threatened after revealing Palestine demonstrations

After October 7, thousands of people have demonstrated in Malmö, against Israel’s warfare in Gaza.

Earlier this week Sydsvenskan revealed how leading profiles in the demonstration trains say completely different things in Swedish and Arabic.

In Swedish, they shout “Everyone sees and everyone hears how the children in Gaza die” and “We want a ceasefire”.

But in Arabic, the leaders of the demonstration call for terrorist support and continued war.

– The reviews we have done are important and relevant and we will continue to review this issue from different aspects, says Malena Henriksson.

Chanted threatening rhymes

After the review was published, several protesters with Palestinian flags and a megaphone sought out the reporter at her residence.

– They chanted threatening chants directed against her journalistic work, says editor-in-chief Malena Henriksson.

“Totally unreasonable”

Sydsvenskan’s editor-in-chief, Jonas Kanje, says that he is used to and thinks it is reasonable that readers have views on the newspaper’s journalism, but that the crowd outside the reporter’s home is way over the limit.

– It is very serious that you attack individual employees, and that you do it in the home. It is a classic way to try to scare and to try to influence in a completely unreasonable way, he tells TV4 Nyheterna.

Sydsvenskan has taken security measures after the incident, says Jonas Kanje, but he does not want to go into who they are.

The review has been widely disseminated, not least as a result of reports that the reporter was threatened.

– This is a completely unacceptable reaction to a journalistic review, a revelation that is now getting even more widespread, for example here at TV4 because we link to it, says Viveka Hanson, program director for news and society at TV4.
