The first deep dive trailer for FC 25 has been released. It shows the first major changes to the gameplay. EA is focusing more than ever on tactical variability on and off the pitch. A new technology helps you find the way to play, that suits you perfectly.
“Success in FC is no longer about finding the best players in their respective positions, but about finding the right player for the system you want to play.” This is one of the key messages from the new trailer.
It underlines that in FC 25, the tactics you are most comfortable with are more valuable than any highly rated superstar, unless they can play a good role in your formation.
This new-found tactical freedom is made possible by an artificial intelligence called FC IQ. FC IQ includes the following tactical options:

In the new deep dive gameplay trailer, EA promises you “the best control over how your team moves and plays ever.”
Team tactics
You have more options than ever before for team tactics. You can decide exactly how your players line up when you have the ball or how they form up when the opponent has the ball.
Here’s how you can get help in finding the perfect tactic: If you are overwhelmed by the freedom of tactical options at the beginning, that’s no problem. In all modes, you can simply use certain preset tactics from famous managers such as Ancelotti or Pep Guardiola for your game. This allows you to try out which tactical settings suit you best.
In FC 25, there are still the usual tactical templates. However, these are by no means as static as they were in FC 24.
The trailer uses the 4-3-3 formation used by coach Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid as an example. You can change this formation to a 4-2-3-1 in the tactics, at least when you are in possession of the ball in the opponent’s half. As soon as you lose the ball, your players return to the more stable 4-3-3 formation.
Smart Tactics adapt to your game
Especially at the beginning of FC 25, it may be the case that your new tactics do not work immediately in the game, but you need a new tactical approach during the match. That’s why there are the new Smart Tactics, which adapt to the course of the game.
This is how FC IQ helps you with your tactics even during the game: Depending on the score, you can then make suggested adjustments during the match. For example, you will be suggested a well-balanced 4-4-2 formation, where you can rely more on a controlled build-up of play. If your opponent is creating chance after chance, you can switch to a more defensive 5-4-1 tactic in order to be as stable as possible.
These tactics are suggested to you in the shortcut menu at the bottom of the screen and can be activated with just one tap on the arrow key.
Not all of your players will be able to cope with the tactical variability as well as you would like them to. Therefore, you must now pay attention to the player roles when putting together your team.
Player roles
To ensure that your players are not overwhelmed with their new tactical freedom in the game, EA is introducing player roles.
Player roles were developed from real data sets that analyzed the behavior of top international stars such as Jude Bellingham and Vinícius Junior. The analysis for FC 25 resulted in over 50 different player roles, which can be assigned up to 3 different focuses.

The interplay between player roles and team tactics should guarantee an unprecedented tactical variety for FC 25. Different starting formations, coupled with different roles and focus, result in thousands of variations. In a preview in the tactics menu, you can even simulate the real tactical formations with the corresponding running routes:
