This is a major blow to Mexico’s powerful Sinaloa cartel: two of its leaders were captured on Thursday, July 25 in Texas. They were among the most wanted traffickers in the United States. They are Ismael Zambada Garcia, also known as “El Mayo”, co-founder of the cartel, and Joaquin Guzman Lopez, one of the sons of the famous drug lord “El Chapo”. Mexican President Andrés Manuel Lopez Obrador asked the United States on Friday for a “complete report” on the arrest of these two leaders, during an operation in which Mexico did not participate. What does this arrest mean for the cartel and its flagship product, fentanyl?
