The arrest of Joaquin Guzman Lopez, the son of the founder of the organization in Sinaloa, one of the largest drug cartels in Mexico, which is famous throughout the world for its drug cartels, caused shock.
THEY ARE THE MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES FOR FENTANYL CONSUMPTION
In a written statement on the subject, US Attorney General Merrick Garland stated that they dealt a major blow to the Sinaloa cartel, which is shown as the most important cause of fentanyl consumption in the US.
ONE OF THE WORLD’S MOST DANGEROUS CARTELS
Garland said in his statement that Ismael Zambada Garcia, one of the two founders of the Sinaloa cartel, which is considered one of the most dangerous drug cartels in the world, and Lopez, the son of the other founder, “El Chapo,” were arrested in El Paso, Texas, and will appear before a judge in the coming days.
THE DEADLY DANGER OF FENTANYL
Fentanyl, a synthetic painkiller, has been shown in medical studies to be 100 times more potent than morphine and fatal if taken in doses of two milligrams.
It is known that almost all of the fentanyl that has caused the deaths of tens of thousands of people in the United States is produced in Mexico and then smuggled into the United States illegally, thanks to precursor chemicals smuggled in from China.
PRINCE ALSO DIED FROM FENTANYL
World-famous singer Prince died on April 21, 2016, at the age of 57, from an accidental fentanyl overdose.
US GOES AFTER THE ORGANIZATION’S TOP NAMES
Ovidio Guzman, 28, one of the most wanted drug traffickers in the United States and a prominent leader of the Sinaloa cartel, was detained in an operation in the northern Mexican city of Culiacan in February 2023 and extradited to the United States in September.
Joaquin Guzman, nicknamed “El Chapo”, was sentenced to life imprisonment in July of last year in the case heard in the US state of New York.
Joaquin Guzman, who escaped from two maximum security prisons in Mexico in 2001 and 2015, was last captured in January 2016 and extradited to the United States. (AA)
