Play one of WoW’s most iconic raids now with three difficulty levels, 20 players and a bonus boss

With the newly launched Phase 4 of the Season of Discovery, Onyxia’s Lair and Molten Core are playable in WoW Classic – with exciting new features. MeinMMO tells you what to expect in the new editions of the iconic instances.

What’s new about Molten Core from Season of Discovery? Since July 25, 2024, brave Azeroth heroes have been allowed to venture deep into Blackrock to once again send Ragnaros and his minions into the lava. However, the Blizzard developers have come up with some new features for the seasonal version of the raid instance:

  • The iconic raid instance from Vanilla WoW is no longer aimed at 40-player raids, but at 20-player teams.
  • By varying the difficulty level, you can make the challenges tougher and earn better loot.
  • The loot from “MC” (short for “Molten Core”) has been adjusted. For example, you can now expect revised Tier 1 class sets.
  • On the highest difficulty level, you can challenge a new bonus boss once you have mastered all of the other core challenges. This one will not drop exclusive loot, but rather tokens for class equipment and attractive loot from other bosses.

How does the variable difficulty level work? When you enter Molten Core, you will meet a Hydraxian at the entrance who will let you choose one of three heat levels: Glowing, Murderous, and Molten.

  • Scorching heat – Step 1
  • The easiest of the three modes should be manageable for almost all groups. You’ll need fewer consumables, fire resistance buffs, etc.
  • Murderous heat – Level 2
  • A slightly harder mode that requires better coordination and preparation. For those with a moderate amount of consumables, enchantments, buffs, fire resistance, etc., Murderous Heat should be quite doable.
  • The gear rewards for Murderous Heat are the same as Scorching Heat, but most bosses drop an additional item.
  • Recommended fire resistance: at least +96
  • Molten Heat – Level 3
  • The Molten Heat level is aimed at experienced groups.
  • The rewards for Molten Heat are the same as for Scorching Heat, but later in the raid you will receive some additional items as well as unique cosmetic weapons.
  • Recommended fire resistance: at least +226
  • Also note: With each heat level, you have to master additional mechanics in boss fights. In addition, the recommended fire resistance is not only important for tanks, but for the entire raid.

What about Onyxia? The Broodmother has also been adjusted. You can challenge Onyxia with 40 or fewer players. There have also been adjustments to the loot. Like Lord Kazzak and Azuregos, you can challenge the Dragon Lady twice a week. The ID for the Molten Core resets once a week.

By the way, Cataclysm Classic is currently running on the progressive WoW servers. The Rise of the Zandalari update will be released on July 31, 2024.
