Local media reported that two people swimming in a water park in northern Israel were diagnosed with the brain-eating amoeba. The 25-year-old man died, while the 10-year-old boy, who is in serious condition, is still receiving treatment in hospital.
It was reported that the Ministry of Health ordered the closure of the water park in question. It was also reported that the Ministry asked people who visited the park in the last two weeks with complaints such as fever, headache or vomiting to contact health institutions. It was reported that more than 100 people went to the hospital.
The amoeba called “Naegleria fowleri” enters the brain through the nose. Experts state that the probability of survival of people infected with this type of amoeba is extremely low. (AA)
