Come along to the old prison in Karlskrona – Scanian company close to taking over

During September 2010, the last prisoner left the prison in central Karlskrona. The following year, the Indonesian company Carlskrona Property Development AB bought the property.

Various businesses have tried to establish themselves in the historic building, but no project was a success story. In recent years, the nearly 4,000-square-meter lot has been empty and dilapidated.

  • The broker: “In very bad condition”

The price tag for the prison has varied greatly. In 2019, the owners tried to get up to SEK 65 million for the property, in the ongoing sale the starting price is SEK 15 million.

    – The building is in very poor condition, says the broker Gunnar Thulin. The reason for this is extensive vandalism in recent years. The door to the building has been left open, chaos and devastation reign inside the premises.

Several stakeholders – this time too

Broker Gunnar Thulin has had various interested parties who proved willing to buy.

    – We are close, but we have the seller on the other side of the world who will also have his say. That’s where we have a bit of difficulty and we’ve had that recently as well, he says.

Do you believe it this time?

    – Yes, the sellers have to get rid of it, he says.

Skåne real estate company close to purchase

The closest to a signed contract is a real estate company from Skåne, which wants to remain anonymous until the deal is done.

When SVT meets representatives of the company, they state that the building is primarily to be refreshed and that there could be student apartments in the prison.

At the moment, ordinary residences may not be built in the building due to the fact that the property is classified as a special unit in the detailed plan.
