This is why the Swedes are fleeing the country Big

The Swedish summer has not lived up to expectations this year. Rain and debris have characterized the weather in many parts of the country.

It is the second bad summer in a row and now the Swedes seem to have had enough. Now they seek better fortune abroad.

– In recent weeks, our bookings have increased by around 20 percent compared to the same period last year. The majority of these are last minute bookings and we believe that the bad weather has a big impact on the booking situation at the moment, says Dian Martinez Valenciacommunications manager at Tui to News24.

Rained more than twice as much

If you’ve been asking yourself if it’s raining more than usual this summer, SMHI can confirm that it actually is. Both June and July have had more rain than the previous year, the meteorologist says Emilie Karlsson in an interview with P4 Sörmland.

July has been the rainiest and in some places in the country it has rained twice as much compared to the same period last year.

According to Claes Pellvik, communications manager at Ving, travel searches on their website increased by as much as 45 percent over the weekend, compared to the week before. It reports SVT. He suspects that the rain is a contributing factor.

– The weather has a huge impact on the Swedes’ desire to travel, which this weekend’s sales clearly show, says Claes Pellvik to SVT.

Cost what it costs

Stina Nyman, travel salesperson in Eskilstuna, says that she too has noticed the increased pressure. She describes the Swedes’ enormous interest in foreign travel as “crazy”.

According to Loans & savings bank Swedes spent an average of SEK 21,800 per person on a holiday last year. But Stina Nyman believes that the Swedes don’t seem to care about the price tag this year, due to the bad weather.

– People are willing to pay almost anything to travel away, she tells SVT.
