“Provides more information than Secret service wants to share with America” • Warning for strong scenes
The video clip was posted by Republican Senator Chuck Grassley on X the night of Wednesday Swedish time.
The clip shows police officers and what appears to be a Secret Service agent on the roof from where the suspected shooter, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, fired multiple shots at the stage where Donald Trump was holding a campaign rally.
Next to the men, Matthew Crooks is seen lying lifeless with a stream of blood running along the roof, and a few meters away is the suspected weapon.
Secret service chief resigns
In the post on X, Chuck Grassley, who is a senator from Iowa, harshly criticizes the Secret Service.
“The body camera footage provides more information than the Secret Service wants to share with America,” writes Grassley.
The bodyguard force Secret service has received extensive criticism after the shootings against Donald Trump. After a grilling in Congress on Monday, the organization’s head, Kimberly Cheatle, chose to resign on Tuesday.
“I take full responsibility for the safety lapse. In light of what has happened, it is with a heavy heart that I have made the difficult decision to resign as your chief,” Cheatle writes in an email to the police organization’s employees.
