A new feature of the PS5 opens up multiplayer in a new way

The latest firmware update for the PS5 opens up completely new possibilities for you to find other players. It can be anyone using a QR code.

What is this new feature? The firmware update 24.05-09.60.00 (via playstation.com) adds the Share Link function. This allows you to invite any other PlayStation 5 player to an ongoing open multiplayer game. For example, do you need help with a certain boss and the game supports co-op? No problem. We’ll explain how the new system works.

Call for help via QR code

How do I invite strangers to my multiplayer games on PS5? It’s easy: Open the action card of the current game session and select Share link. You will be shown a QR code. Scan it with your mobile phone and follow the instructions or copy the link displayed directly.

What can I do with it then? Using this QR code, virtually any PS5 player can join your game. You could post the link on X, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Discord or any other forum and wait to see which complete stranger ends up in your game.

Maybe you’ll soon find some new PlayStation friends this way – or simply new fellow players for an evening or even just a few minutes as a helper in times of need.

  • Would you like to have an R2D2 from Star Wars as a driver in your car? In the future, military pilots from the USA could have something very similar to the little astromech on board as a co-pilot. We present the exciting concept, which will soon be tested on board real aircraft, in the following article: If you were a fighter pilot, a virtual “R2D2” from Star Wars would soon accompany you.
