The weather forecast for Friday, the date of the Olympic opening ceremony, is starting to become clearer

The opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will take place on Friday, July 26. A campaign promise by the Olympic organizing committee, this ceremony is intended to be grandiose, unique and more beautiful than ever due to its open-air setting on the Seine, including a long parade of athletes on boats.

But what will the weather be like for the ceremony? The forecasts have been getting more precise over the last few days and while the initial forecasts were relatively good, things seem to be getting more complicated as the big day approaches. Indeed, according to the latest forecasts from Météo France published on Tuesday 23 July, the weather is forecast to be stormy in the Paris region throughout the day with alternating grey skies and sunshine.

The evening promises to be even more difficult with the possibility of showers and especially gusts of wind around 20 km/h. Not ideal for the boats and the fireworks display planned by the Paris 2024 committee. If the ceremony lasts too long, heavy showers could occur later in the evening!

As for temperatures, Meteo France indicates that they will be quite seasonal with a temperature range between 25 and 29°C according to most scenarios. In the evening, a temperature of 25°C is expected at 6:30 p.m. for the start of the festivities on the Seine. The temperature should be 22°C for the end of the ceremony.

Unfortunately, the country is located between a powerful anticyclone over the Iberian Peninsula and a disturbed area over the United Kingdom. It is still difficult to accurately predict the weather for this Friday, but experts remain optimistic. Be careful, however, because the risk of rain could have other consequences on the holding of the ceremony.

According to the Cojo, the flow of the river is “four to six times higher” At “usual summer flow”, which can be dangerous for the athletes, because of the current, but also for the boats during the opening ceremony! In case of rain in the next few hours, this flow could cause disruptions because the boats may have to slow down, implying a delay in the organization of the ceremony.
