  • Three vehicles have collided on the E22 outside Kristianstad near Bäckaskog.

    What caused the accident and who is injured is unclear, according to the police.

    The road is completely closed and there is no forecast for when the road is expected to open, writes the Swedish Transport Administration on its website.

  • Elderly man shot dead in his home – 21-year-old sentenced for murder

    In August last year, a 72-year-old man was shot dead in his home in Åstorp in Scania.

    A 21-year-old man is now sentenced to 16 years in prison for having carried out the murder. Two other men are sentenced to life imprisonment.

    The Helsingborg district court announced this today.

  • Was dragged after his stolen car

    A person had his car stolen in Sundsvall.

    The plaintiff is said to have been standing outside the car when the perpetrator, a man in his 20s, got into it and drove away.

    The plaintiff initially tried to hold on to the car and dragged the car for a short distance.

    The person should not have suffered any serious injuries.

    The police are then alerted that the car was on the E4, and the police stopped the car in Tönnebro, 16 miles from where the car was originally stolen.

    The man who stole the car has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a stimulant and causing danger to another.

    The man is also arrested.

  • Many dead in landslides in Ethiopia

    At least 146 people have died in a landslide in southern Ethiopia on Monday, local authorities said. Among the victims are small children and pregnant women.

    The landslide occurred after heavy downpours in the mountainous region in a remote part of the country.

    Pictures show people using their bare hands to dig through the soil to search for survivors. Many of the victims were buried as rescue workers scoured the steep terrain for survivors of an earlier landslide that occurred over the weekend.

    The rescue service has been alerted to Lilla Bommens harbor outside the Gothenburg Opera after smoke from a boat, reports P4 Gothenburg.

    One of Västtrafik’s ferries is now circling the boat to possibly help.

  • Typhoon “Carina” moves in – schools and authorities close down

    Monsoon and typhoon “Carina” move in over the Philippines.

    According to an official from the presidential office, it has been decided to close down government offices and schools in the area around and in the capital, Manila.

    The decision takes effect immediately.

    However, socially important institutions, such as services for rescue, preparedness and healthcare, must be up and running.

    Carina is the third tropical cyclone to move in over the country so far this year, according to Inqurer.net

    Several airports have also closed due to the typhoon.

  • Hamas: National Unity Agreement

    Hamas leader Musa Abu Marzuk says the terrorist organization has signed an agreement on national unity with other Palestinian groups, including rival Fatah, during a meeting in China.

    “Today we sign an agreement on national unity and we say that the way to complete this journey is national unity. We are committed to national unity and we demand it,” he announces.

    Fatah and Hamas have been at odds with each other since terrorist-branded Hamas ousted Fatah from the Gaza Strip in deadly clashes that followed Hamas’s 2006 election victory.

  • SBAB lowers mortgage rates

    State SBAB lowers mortgage rates, including on the three-month interest rate by 0.15 percentage points to a list rate of 4.62 percent.

    The fixed mortgage interest rates from one to ten years are also reduced by between 0.10 and 0.25 percentage points.

    “We made a reduction on fixed loans 1-5 years at the beginning of July and this time we are reducing across the board. We are in a period of falling interest rates and we are keen that our customers will be able to take part in this”, says Mikael Inglander, CEO of SBAB in a press release.

    For loans with a commitment period of one year, for example, the interest rate is reduced by 0.20 percentage points to 4.32 percent. In addition to the list rate, the banks also publish an average rate, that is, the average rate that the bank’s customers have received. It is traditionally always below the list rate.

  • Man in his 90s missing

    A man in his 90s has been reported missing from his home in Trelleborg.

    The police are searching in central Trelleborg and the surrounding area with police patrols and UAS – police drones.

    The man is approximately 175 cm tall, has white/grey hair, glasses, wears a red cap and uses a walker.

    The police urge people who see or have seen the man to call 112.

    On Tuesday morning, the police announced that a person has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and serious weapons offences.

    There is oil on the road on the E4 near Nyköping.

    This can cause lightning strikes, warns the Swedish Transport Administration.

    This applies in the direction of Norrköping.

    The oil is being cleaned up.

    – We will be ready at 9 o’clock, says Irene Skogvold at the Swedish Transport Administration’s press service.

    It is still unclear how the oil ended up on the road.

    – The grass has been cut on the side of the road, so we think it could possibly come from the lawnmower, but that’s just a theory.

    So it’s about a motor oil on the road?

    The last original member of the classic soul band The Four Tops, Abdul “Duke” Fakir, has passed away, writes Rolling Stone Magazine. He lived to be 88 years old. Abdul Fakir was the first son of The Four Tops and the last living original member before he passed away at home in Detroit.

    The band was formed in the early 1950s in Detroit. In 1956, they changed their name to The Four Tops and became one of the Motown record company’s great successes. Among their big hits are “Baby, I need your lovin”, “Reach out, I’ll be there” and “I can’t help myself (sugar pie honey bunch)”.

  • Suspected bullet holes through windows in Malmö

    The police were alerted on Monday evening to an address in Malmö.

    On site, suspected bullet holes are found in the window of a glazed balcony.

    No one is said to have been physically harmed.

    The police have held interviews and carried out a crime scene investigation.

    The incident is now being investigated as an unlawful threat.
