Council of Ministers: Competition Bill Postponed, Global Combat Air Programme Ratified

(Finance) – In the Cabinet summoned at 5.30 pm, it was Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP) Convention ratifiedan international collaboration between Italy, the United Kingdom and Japan to develop a seventh-generation fighter aircraft by 2035. Leonardo, Bae Systems and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries are the strategic partners of this project.

As reported by the Leonardo Groupthe three nations unveiled a new concept model of the fighter at the Farnborough International Air Show.

“L’fighter jetwhich will enter service in 2035,” reads Leonardo’s note, “will be one of the most advanced, interoperable, adaptable and connected aircraft in service in the world, relying on an intelligent weapons system, a software-based interactive cockpit, integrated sensors and a next-generation radar, capable of providing 10,000 times more data than current systems. GCAP is a strategically important partnershipwhich brings together the governments of Italy, the United Kingdom and Japan and their respective industries to collaborate on shared military and industrial objectives in the delivery of a next-generation combat air capability”.

“The program – the note continues – is extremely significant for security, economic prosperity of every nation and, through effective knowledge and technology transfer, will help evolve and deliver air sovereignty to every nation, for generations to come. GCAP will employ tens of thousands of skilled people in the UK, Japan and Italy, developing industrial skills and technologies for the future.”

The Competition Billinstead, it was postponed for further checks on financial coverage, an issue that emerged during the pre-council meeting. Approval was postponed to a subsequent meeting.

On the table of the Cabinet The following were also examined: first three consolidated texts of the tax reform: the Consolidated Law on Tax, Administrative and Criminal Sanctions; the Consolidated Law on Minor Treasury Taxes and the Consolidated Law on Tax Justice. Furthermore, the “second final examination” discussed the legislative decree “Provisions on the reorganization of the national collection system” and a legislative decree implementing Directive (EU) 2021/2167 on credit managers and credit purchasers.

During the meeting, the following were presented: three information: Undersecretary Alfredo Mantovano spoke about the obligations of public administrations on cybersecurity, Minister of Justice Carlo Nordio gave an update on the parliamentary process of the decree-law on urgent measures in penitentiary and justice matters, and Minister for Civil Protection Nello Musumeci reported on the assignment of the role of Head of the Department of Civil Protection to Fabio Ciciliano, replacing Fabrizio Curcio.
